Plastic Brick / 01.2017

Two of the greatest challenges facing the 21st century are the need to accommodate a growing global population and out of hand plastic consumption leading to seismic pollution.

With this in mind a speculative project was initiated to explore the possibility of combining citizen led recycling and self build housing. This could be achieved through reforming household plastic waste into plastic building bricks. The report concluded that using household plastic waste to create one's own building material may incentivise and thus increase recycling rates. At the same time however, the scale of operation that could be achieved by the individual made the process cost prohibitive.
